“It is unwise to pay too much, but it is worse to pay too little. When you pay too much, you lose a little money – that is all. When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing you ought it to do. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot – it cannot be done. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.”

    • "This second project was extensive with design and construction complexities, which Houseworks handled easily and professionally"   »

For the second time in a decade Tim House and Houseworks Construction completed a major renovation in my home.

The first job, several years ago, involved a ten foot extension to the front of our three-story house. This was an extensive remodel and it also involved the reconfiguration of the bathroom of the master suite on the 2nd floor. Houseworks worked very well with our supervising architect and the job was completed on budget and on time. The more recent project in 2010 involved the complete redo of a large deck on the east side of our house. We extended the width of the deck along the side of the house and installed a granit covered work space with a series of drawers and refrigerator below, essentially a small outdoor kitchen with BBQ. This second project was extensive with design and construction complexities, which Houseworks handled easily and professionally. We are very satisfied with the job.

I would not hesitate to call on Tim and Houseworks in the future.

      Sincerely,
      Paul
    • "We highly recommend Houseworks for any type of remodeling project... ...This [latest] project was completed on time and under budget. "   »

We highly recommend Houseworks for any type of remodeling project based on our experience over the last 15 years. Houseworks has completed three projects for us: a kitchen remodel, a new addition and a just-completed bathroom remodel. This project was completed on time and under budget. Tim House and his staff did an excellent job of keeping us informed of progress on the job, the work areas was kept as clean as possible, and we experienced minimal disruption during the project. Houseworks maintains a crew of dedicated subcontractors, several of whom were involved in our first remodeling project 15 years ago.

    • "We are so impressed with the honesty, integrity and hard work of the entire Houseworks team... ....We can’t say enough about the level of craftsmanship and attention to details in our remodel"   »

Houseworks Construction recently completed a major remodel of our 1903 craftsman home. This was a large project with the house almost entirely taken down to the studs and rebuilt. Tim and the Houseworks team did amazing work in every step of the process We are so impressed with the honesty, integrity and hard work of the entire Houseworks team throughout the remodel. Since we moved out during the construction, it was such a relief to know the project was in good hands and we did not need micromanage the team. In fact, we felt like part of the team as everyone was working together toward the common goal of an excellent remodel while adhering to our timeline and budget.

Tim did an excellent job communicating quickly and directly with changes to the scope and budget. We felt like the inevitable unexpected changes (and challenges) that arise with working on an old house were promptly brought to our attention with proposed solutions. This gave us such confidence that we extended the scope of work and made the remodel more ambitious than we originally intended. And we are very pleased with the results! We can’t say enough about the level of craftsmanship and attention to details in our remodel. The Houseworks’ team takes great pride in their work and that is evident in the final product. One neighbor who toured our house during the remodel process commented that we couldn’t paint the new woodwork because it was too beautiful. The remodeled parts of our house flow seamlessly with the original rooms. The house has maintained its 1903 character and charm but gained the functionality of a new home.

The Houseworks’ subcontractors were also excellent and we worked closely with them. Several of them gave us their direct contact information if we had any questions or problems. They were timely, professional and did excellent work.

We strongly recommend Houseworks to our friends and neighbors who are thinking about remodeling. We also tell them that doing a remodel can actually be enjoyable as long as you hire the right contractor, and we are confident that Houseworks is that contractor.

      Best regards,
      Kate and Alex
    • "The results were terrific! They were able to execute our vision for a luxury kitchen, kept on schedule, communicated progress, understood our specific requests and kept the work area clean throughout. "   »

We loved working with Houseworks to renovate our kitchen and powder room. The results were terrific! They were able to execute our vision for a luxury kitchen, kept on schedule, communicated progress, understood our specific requests and kept the work area clean throughout. All of the different elements – the counters, the tile and the fixtures look great! They even set up a temporary kitchen – with the dishwasher intact – during the renovation!

We’ve used Houseworks for other projects as well, and they’ve all gone smoothly.. Thanks to Houseworks for doing a great job, and we would strongly recommend them for your remodel.

    • "We’ve lived in many houses and have undertaken many projects; we’ve worked with many contractors and subcontractors. This was hands-down our best experience. "   »

I’d like to take this opportunity to thank you and yoru wonderful crew of subcontractors for the great and timely job you did remodeling our bathroom at our Redmond home.

From the moment you walked in with your tape measure and open ear to the final day when you dropped everything to come by and check a question I had, you and your subcontractors were professional and then some. The project began when you said it would, cost what you said it would, and was finished before you said it would be. Your subcontractors all – independently – spoke highly of you. It was easy to collaborate with you to create a vision of what we could do, and the outcome is picture-perfect.

We’ve lived in many houses and have undertaken many projects; we’ve worked with many contractors and subcontractors. This was hands-down our best experience. Thank you so much! We would willingly, eagerly, recommend you and your crew to anyone who wants to undertake a construction project.

      Best wishes,
      Diane and Keith
    • "Partnering with you on our home remodel was the best decision I ever made. "   »

I wanted to take a moment to thank you for your flexibility when working with us on our two recent projects. Partnering with you on our home remodel was the best decision I ever made. Not only was the work excellent, but you gave invaluable advice at every step. I was impressed by your willingness to work with a budding “do-it-yourselfer” and volunteer portions of the project I could easily complete of the weekends. I couldn’t possibly be happier with the result.

With the repairs to the apartment, I deeply appreciate your willingness to work with the schedule of our tenant who works evenings and sleeps during the day. When purchasing the home with an already rented apartment, we had reservations about becoming accidental landlords. Having an excellent contractor makes this much easier, and our tenant specially mentioned how pleasant her interactions were with you and your team. This was extremely helpful in establishing a positive relationship with our new tenant.

      Thanks again for everything,
      Daniel and Bonnie
    • "Our project, a kitchen remodel, was managed with one hundred percent professional attitude, workmanship and integrity. "   »

Our project, a kitchen remodel, was managed with one hundred percent professional attitude, workmanship and integrity. When I first contacted Tim of Houseworks Construction for a bid, Time was the only contractor to spend time with me, looking over the plans, discussing what we wanted from the remodel and making suggestions for improvements to the plans. He was efficient with returning proposals and setting dates to begin.

When we started our remodel every person that stepped foot in our house was very professional and treated our house as our home. Our foreman was terrific, very respectful of our needs and our privacy. He made sure that everything was as orderly as possible every evening when leaving the work site. Everyone was helpful when it came to choosing what we wanted in our new kitchen and any changes that needed to be made, working to ensure that we got what we ordered, including items that were hard to come by or back-ordered. Our kitchen and new bath, along with some other structural changes are great and we are very pleased with the outcome.

I would heartily recommend Houseworks Construction and plan to use them again for our next remodel.

    • "I am happy to be able to recommend Houseworks Construction Company without qualification....My new kitchen is functional, comfortable and beautiful. I love it. "   »

I am happy to be able to recommend Houseworks Construction Company without qualification. Time House and company were true partners in gutting and extensive remodel of my 1929 kitchen.

From the design to structural and mechanical engineering to material selection, Tim acted as my partner and consultant. He helped me review the plumbing, heating and electrical configurations and bids to best serve the overall project. He addressed my questions, kept me informed of the project’s progress and ultimately delivered a fabulous kitchen on time and as bid. The problems that surfaced (and were uncovered) were quickly resolved. When demolition revealed one corner of our house was not supported sufficiently, Tim and crew figured out how to hide the needed beam and the 2” slope that caused settling over the years.

I appreciate that Houseworks assigns permanent staff, not contract labor to its jobs. Lead contractor Andrey’s work was beautiful. He was willing, not just to change course when the proscribed arch or the trim didn’t look right, but to weigh in based on his experience. Tim’s other employees were equally talented and dependable. The subcontractors in Tim’s retinue are top shelf as well. Under supervision of the Houseworks team, the subcontractors fulfilled their obligations with high quality work. In short, the general and subcontractors did what they said they would do and did it well.

My new kitchen is functional, comfortable and beautiful. I love it. I am happy to answer questions about the company. After all, it was through client recommendations and visits to other projects that I came to hire Houseworks.

      Sincerely,
      Victoria
    • "Working with Houseworks’ great crew has put us in the rare position to brag about how much we love our contractor. "   »

Working with Houseworks’ great crew has put us in the rare position to brag about how much we love our contractor. Even though our house looks fantastic, people seem surprised that we don’t have any horror stories to tell. “What, your contractor didn’t go t Mexico for two weeks after tearing out your bathroom?” Nope. “You mean someone actually showed up every day or called if they couldn’t?” Yep. “And you still have a college fund for your kids?” Well… (Only kidding, Tim. We feel the high quality of work and service was worth every twenty thousand dollar installment).

Seriously, Matt and I are very happy with the outcome of both remodels. We’d like to thank you, Tim, for holding our hands in the beginning when we were completely green.

We’d like to thank Mark and Kenny for their beautiful work on the tile and stone, and Joanna for her tireless efforts to get all the plumbing just right and find us the perfect bathtub. Baby Hillman thanks everyone involved for taking meticulous care to reduce the spread of toxic dust during the bathroom demolition. And we owe a lot to Terry Bocian, a perfectionist and a gentleman, who presided over the details with skill and integrity.

      Best wishes for the future.

      Yours very truly,
      Susie
    • "We are very happy with the work you performed and the extra effort that was made to ensure that the ‘new’ work looked ‘old’ and blended in with the original character and quality of our unique home. "   »

Maureen and I wanted to take the time to thank you and your team for the outstanding job that was done on the renovation of our house over the past year. We love all of the changes that were made to our house but are especially enjoying the new kitchen, office and master bathroom, as well as the beautiful cedar siding, copper roof and copper gutters. Also, the quality of the finish work on all the new interior wood trim is beautiful and really adds to the atmosphere of our home.

We are very happy with the work you performed and the extra effort that was made to ensure that the “new” work looked “old” and blended in with the original character and quality of our unique home. We are very happy with the rebuilt foyer fireplace and all the hand distressing Mike performed on the exposed exterior beams (front door area, railing off the kitchen, supports under the library window seat). Mike and the rest of your team truly understood the concept of “old world craftsmanship” that we were looking for. I think the best compliment is when we show and explain to our friends and family what you did, they all say they can’t believe that it is not original.

Maureen especially wants to thank you for completing such a large renovation project on time. Your timeliness allowed her out of town family to enjoy our restored house during our wedding festivities which occurred one month after we moved back in. Both our families were very impressed with the work that was done.

After comparing our remodeling experience to that of our friends’, we are thankful that we chose Houseworks since our project went very smoothly. If we ever have any future remodeling, we will definitely be calling you. Feel free to give out our name and phone number as a reference to any potential customers in the future.

      Thanks again,
      Tim and Maureen
    • "One of the things we were very impressed with was the uniform high quality of your subcontractors. They were all very professional and did very high quality work. "   »

We have been enjoying our newly remodeled home now for two years and I keep thinking that I need to write you to tell you how happy we are with the results. Today is the day. One of the things we were very impressed with was the uniform high quality of your subcontractors. I have dealt with construction people in the past that I didn’t even want in my home; I would gladly have had any of your subs (except the roofer) over for dinner. They were all very professional and did very high quality work.

The supervisor on the job, Terry Bocian, was a pleasure to work with. He understood that I wanted to be very involved in the remodel and made sure I had the opportunity for input on all decisions. He noticed and corrected problems as we went along which resulted in a very high quality finished product. The scope of our remodel was very large and we were living in a one-bedroom apartment with two young children so my stress level was very high, Terry’s demeanor and understanding of the situation really helped me to cope. I can’t say enough about how highly I regard Terry, he was wonderful to work with.

As to the finished remodel, the quality is outstanding. Everything from the refinished and patched floor, paint, tile work, cabinets and casework is done beautifully.

Now that I’ve taken two years to recover from this major remodel, I’ll give you a call to do some minor work on the upstairs. I’m never leaving this home so won’t be needing your services again, but I would recommend you highly to anyone considering home construction.

      Sincerely,
      Pam and Jose
